Motion design and animation has been a somewhat isolated design discipline for a while. I believe it should also play an integral role in today’s web and interface design as it is key to bringing elements to life and giving them character. Above all it can also clarify the purpose of interface parts or explain its usage.
Motion design can transport characteristics and emotion just as much as visual design can. Images of our natural surroundings are neither one-dimensional nor motionless, so using animation to bring visuals to life is a logical step. This also applies to branding, as motion is also a part of how a brand communicates with the consumer. Defining a language of motion should be an inherent part of creating a brand, just as much as a logo.
